My girlfriend and best friend Mike went to the Varsity Show in the winter of 1963. We were so excited about being there and dancing. I remember when a student from West High let me know (being from East High) that "West was best and East was Least." Well, she danced with me anyway!
This story brings back (somewhat hazy) memories. In the late '50s I was a student at AHS on Romig and was part of the high school dance band led by the Kalfas brothers, Don & Dennis. We played several times, in '58 and '59, in front of the TV cameras in the basement of the McKinley building, if memory serves me right. I played lead trumpet in the band and recall we played an arrangement of the Mancini hit tune, Peter Gunn Theme. Thanks for the story! Gene Brown

Rick – fun memory – the East – West rivalry was interesting.

Gene – great memory – Do you have pictures from your visit to the TV studio?
Sorry, Mike, but I just saw this. No, unfortunately, all the family photos from our lives in Anchorage were lost in the '80s. g
Enjoyed reading about this local history about TV in Anchorage. Thanks.
